Injection Molding for Electronics and Telecom: B2B RFQ Guide

Injection molding can produce plastic parts used in electronic and telecommunications equipment, from enclosure components to supports and molded connector features. For a B2B project, the useful question is whether the specified part, resin, tooling and acceptance plan fit the product—not whether injection molding is suitable for every electronic component.

DAYIN’s dịch vụ OEM/ODM đúc phun nhựa covers project discussions for molded parts. For a quotation review, share the drawing revision, material target, volume range and required validation through the trang liên hệ.

Part families to define in an electronics RFQ

Part family Requirements to identify
Enclosures, covers and bezels Assembly interfaces, datum scheme, openings, snap features, cosmetic surfaces, color and the operating environment.
Internal supports, carriers and brackets Loads, fastening points, position or flatness needs, contact with neighboring parts and any vibration or temperature conditions.
Connector bodies and cable-related molded parts Mating geometry, insert or overmold interfaces, retention criteria and the specific molded component in scope. Keep electrical and product-level requirements tied to the end-product specification.
Clips, guides and protective components Retention force, installation method, repeated-use conditions, chemical exposure and the inspection method for critical features.
Thermal or regulated housings Actual heat, flammability, electrical, environmental or EMC requirements that apply to the assembled product, plus the owner of each validation test.

These are example part families, not a universal list of electronics components made by injection molding. Confirm the part’s role and process route with the design owner before requesting a quote.

What to specify before asking for a quote

  • Định nghĩa chi tiết: current 2D drawing and 3D model, part number, revision, critical-to-quality features, assembly interfaces and cosmetic zones.
  • Vật liệu: required resin family and grade, color, fillers or additives, approved alternates, and any property or compliance evidence the finished product needs.
  • Geometry and tolerances: functional dimensions, datums, fit requirements and the measurement method for each critical feature. Avoid using “high precision” without dimensions and acceptance limits.
  • Inserts and secondary operations: insert material and position, overmold details, assembly, printing, coating or other outsourced steps, with acceptance criteria for each.
  • Demand and launch: annual and launch volume ranges, forecast assumptions, delivery location, packaging, sample stages and planned production start.
  • Validation: first-article dimensions, assembly checks, environmental or product-level tests, sample quantities and pass/fail criteria required by the customer.

Review design for manufacturability with the mold supplier

Ask the mold supplier to review wall-thickness transitions, flow paths, draft, ribs, bosses, inserts, gates, weld lines, ejection and potential warpage against the functional design. Changes to these features can affect filling and dimensional behavior, so request the reason for each proposed change and its impact on fit, tool cost, lead time and validation.

Autodesk’s injection molding wall-thickness guidance và giải thích của nó về how thickness affects flow are useful design references. They are not substitutes for a part-specific DFM review or a customer-approved drawing.

For plastic molded parts, ISO 20457:2026 addresses dimensional and geometrical tolerances, acceptance conditions and technically achievable tolerances. Use it when the parties adopt it for the project. It does not create a universal tolerance for every molded part; define functional requirements and agree how the supplier will measure and report them.

Agree on acceptance and change control

Before tooling release, document the approved material, drawing revision, mold ownership, production site, sample stages, inspection plan and approval authority. For each critical dimension or function, identify the gauge or test method, sampling frequency and reaction plan if a result falls outside the agreed limit.

Review samples made with production-intent material, tool and process conditions. Record deviations and close required corrective actions before release. After approval, define how the supplier must request approval for material substitutions, tool modifications, process moves or subcontracted operations. Apply PPAP or another customer approval process only when the program requires it.

Các câu hỏi thường gặp

What electronic parts can be injection molded?

Depending on the design and material, a project may include enclosures, covers, internal supports, brackets, clips, connector bodies or insert-molded features. The RFQ should identify the exact part and its functional requirements.

How should a buyer specify tolerances for molded electronic parts?

Place functional dimensions and acceptance limits on the drawing or agreed specification, then confirm that the mold and process can meet them. ISO 20457:2026 can be used when the parties adopt its tolerance and acceptance framework.

Does a resin datasheet prove the assembled device meets electrical or environmental requirements?

No. Use the applicable product and customer requirements to define what evidence is needed for the material, molded component and assembled device. Assign test ownership before production approval.

What should be included in an injection molding RFQ for telecom parts?

Include current part files, resin grade, critical dimensions, inserts or secondary processes, volume assumptions, delivery requirements and the inspection or validation plan. Identify the production site and any outsourced steps.
